The Art of Seeing

Brick
Here is, in my humble opinion, a stunning building situated just across the road from Mansfield Road. I love the architecture and the building is from top to bottom filled with bricks. This is where I have decided to begin my assignment.

The important feature for me is the aged old texture of the building and the design of the architecture.
It doesn't have a smell. It makes a sort of thump sound. It is rough and cold.
The surface is non-reflective, so is quite dull in any light. It is situated in an old area of Nottingham and this gives it an historical quality.

Stone
For my second material I went to the graveyard also situated near Mansfield and looked at the shapes, concepts and textures of the grave stones.

Wood
For my third material I chose wood. It is rough, coarse, also dull in light but I like the mixture of colours here. They are not old like the bricks but still have the same typical sharp redness to them.

My Train

To give the train some scale...

Made in 3Ds Max and Photoshop CS3, over the course of two days.

I realise that they are not that great (looking at a few other mm students) so i will be gradually working on them and improving the realistic side. For now, they have the scale that's needed.

Journal Task 2

Using your own personal experience write a few lines that describe how a personal contact has provided a creative opportunity for you.

In 2004 I met a musician who showed me how to record and produce metal music. He gave me a lot of good music advice and introduced me to many new sounds (bands) that I had never heard of or thought I would've liked.
I took the skills of recording into my own space and time and bought the equipment to do it by myself.
In 2005 I went to Northampton College to study Music Technology and in 2007 I finished with Distinctions.
This allowed me to get into University and has been a hugely creative opportunity for me in music, art, graphics, web, video and radio.

Update: Showing orf? No. Proud.

Journal Task - Jool's Took a Stance

When Jool's says:
The essential point of networking is human contact. Business has killed networking by making it something for the career orientated person.

I say:
Networking is an essential part of any persons career no matter who you are, whether a student or a manager.
Business hasn't killed networking. Encouraging people to network to establish contacts is key to improving and making a success of a business.
On a smaller scale networking is still a good and working medium to help anyone further themselves, in or out of the world of business.

from Jim Shorthose - Fish, Horses and other Animals
Good networking can mean you do not necessarily need to buy that new piece of kit, or learn that new skill right away as you know someone who can help out in exchange for a return favour. This makes creativity and business quicker, cheaper and means you can compete for business when it is strategically smart to do so.

Good networking inevitably brings greater capacity to work well in cross- disciplinary creativity

Good networking can allow you to access great sources of mutual teaching, learning and informal professional development in all sorts of unseen ways.

Developing networks brings prolonged, intimate and trusting creative relationships that are often good for creativity, for business and for a whole host of other 'emotional' reasons.
