Tesseract: Preview

Update 03:13...

The idea is that a menu will be present to allow for easy navigation, like on the George Harrison website. That red button is the one that will make the tesseract move like the animation I have shown on here before (see previous post).

Project 2: 1st Stage, Complete!

I like a bit of a challenge and this has definitely not been an easy task, but I can't stop thinking about the end result!
The structure is now complete and I've given it some life with colour, though this will change. Now I have to start working on its contents and its movements, camera angles, lights et-cetera.

New Music Society Designs

Here are two new designs I've created for the Music Society.
Please let me know what you think because I have no idea if these are good or not. I just think they do the job!

Logo Design - Research

After going into my surgery session and speaking to Deb I came away feeling very motivated to research and develop some better ideas for my logo. I went into the library but the book I wanted wasn't there so I've put a reservation on it. But while in the library I looked at the book On B®and - Wally Olins. It was a very interesting read covering every possible angle for creating, maintaining and evolving a brand for a company in a successful way.

When it comes to branding there are two types of people...
There are those love it

And those who loathe it

But no matter who you are, you cannot avoid brands. As a whole we love to use them because it is an easy way to create a simple and effective public image; effective in that it gives the impression you want to give out.
"That alluring, button-holeing, let-me-just-tell-you-quite-soberly-something-you-ought-to-know style of newspaper advertisement." - H.G. Wells - Tono-Bungay

My aim is to create an honest logo design that clearly represents who I am. I will begin by brain-storming keywords and categorising them into four areas (hopefully), such as: Skills, Personalities, Likes/Dislikes and Characteristics. Some other things such as appearance might participate in the collection of keywords, as I've been told by many people that I have quite an individual and noticeable appearance.

ALCOHOL/DRINKS...
As an example Baileys is perceived to have strong, deep and traditional national roots, which is why it is so popular and sold worldwide in virtually every bar/pub.

It's not even Irish. The drink was created by a team that was led by a cornishman. Don't bother checking their website, non of the so-called facts are true... there is no R & A Bailey and they most certainly did not have a brainchild.

Logo Design Set [1] - Identities Project 2

Here are a few logo designs I came up with tonight. Just some sketches that are conceptually simple.

The coffee stain was no accident... I got the idea from looking at the front cover of the Live at Sin-é album.
The punch/knuckle idea just popped into my brain quite randomly, but I think it was due to a picture I saw on Friday of Robert Mitchum (I looked him up on the Internet after watching Dead Man).

Practicing Model & Environment in Maya

To make this possible I went'a searching in YouTube to find a (free) home-made tutorial. I happily stumbled upon the fine work of unpicked1. This person has some pretty good stuff, I recommend that you have a look if you have the time.
This was just to practice creating a model and environment and comments are very welcome!

Design for the Box [2]

Last night I thought some more about the design for my box, because I've been spending the whole weekend trying to create something by myself that is so difficult, I haven't really got very far. So I've placed it on the back burner for now.

The new idea stems from what I found on the website commonwealth.pl. I wrote a little bit about it in my review of the website. It is the "sub-menu" with the picture of a crown and it is on every page you go to.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

In the same way I plan to make one box with a picture or letters that I can identify with and moving the cursor over that box trigger a command to bring up 5 or 6 more boxes that represent me.
Hopefully now I will be able to get further into the project and not be stuck working out how to use mel scripts in Maya as I had been doing for the Tesseract.

Project 2: Design for the box

The first idea I had for my box/showcase, which I'm keen at this moment to go ahead with is the Tesseract.
A Tesseract is a four-dimensional hypercube, an 8-cell or octachoron and looks like this:

The box I will create will look more like this static version. In total six possible areas to place a logo, interactive objects and audio-visual content...

Update - 16:28:
As the picture above showing the Tesseract cube was not made by me I have put my skills to work and cut out my own...

Navigating Your Identity [Researching Websites] continued...

2)
Looking again to the Favourite Website Awards as a source for interactive websites, I find the very trendy looking http://www.scionspeak.com/

Created by two companies; Freedom Interactive Design and StrawberryFrog.
The aim is to "enable users to create their own individual crests. The website offers an array of images and symbols that can be merged together to form a visual representation of the user; their interests, passion and loves." from www.thefwa.com

Look...
My first impression of the website was that it used mostly white, grey and black colours. Moving my cursor around the main page to see what links were available I find that there are several links located in different areas, but that go to the same sub-page.
There are 3 main links; Make, Look and Watch. These are quite self-explanatory when you understand what the idea is of this website.

Ease of use...
Everything in this website is very easy to use. Navigating around is simple, customising your crest is pretty straight forward and watching the videos couldn't be any easier.

Relevance...
I think the target market for this website has got to be for males aged 12-25. This is because the graphics, images and symbols are very similar to the graffiti style you can usually find around skateboarding areas. I have now discovered that Scion is an American car company. The majority of their consumers seem to be young adults who like to customise, or as we say in England "do up" their cars.

Organisation and Design of content...
This website is very well laid out because it's simple. Three areas to choose from with enough content to keep you busy for 15-30 minutes if you're interested to make a crest. It feels very spacious and being vector images, they are very clear as-well.

The Reflection of identity through Design for the company...
There is a consistent colour theme of black through grey to white on every page and the Scion logo is there throughout the website.

Reflection through philosophy of the company's brand...
I think the idea of the crest reflects the philosophy of the brand very well. When the young adults buy the car they want to start customising them. So every car is the same, except for what the individual does to it on the outside. The crests are all the same but the individual can do the same by changing certain things about it.

Success of the interaction design elements...
When I was making my crest I found it to be very interactive. There were no instructions so I had to play around with it to find out what options I had. I especially liked the fact that I could change the colour of any part of the crest.
I would have liked to see some instructions for saving the crest though. At the end there is a few options to download it.
Then I am lead to a Terms and Condition agreement, which I must agree to if I am to download it. Of course I select I AGREE but nothing happens, it seems to load and then stops.
It's probably got something to do with my mac but it's still strange that I can't download it!

So here is the crest I created as a screenshot:
